Dinner is served from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in Heritage Hall.  Free Will Offering.

Food, Fun, and Fellowship for ALL!!

All meals include the Salad Bar Extravaganza; Bread Station with Sun Butter, Peanut Butter, and jellies; Drink Station with Chocolate Milk; Yummy Homemade Dessert Bar.

What is Wednesday Night Live

Wednesday Night Live is after-school and evening programs and activities that run September through May. Each week on Wednesday, our church will be cooking up dinner favorites!  Come join us for delicious home cooked food, fun, education, and amazing fellowship!  You don’t have to plan a meal, shop for the food, prepare the meal, or clean up.  Just come and relax from your busy day!! Guaranteed this is the BEST MEAL DEAL In TOWN!!  Spread the word to neighbors, friends, and co-workers about the WNL dinners.  Everyone is WELCOME to gather around the tables!!

Meals include an entrée with sides, plus a full salad bar extravaganza with a variety of choices to accommodate many dietary needs.  A bread, sun butter, peanut butter and jelly station is also offered along with beverages, and the “melt in your mouth dessert bar” will round out any meal!

“GET IT TO GO” – YES, we have carryout containers so that you can take a meal to a family member or friend.  We also offer leftover food items for you, should you need a salad for the next day or a plate of goodies for your family or co-workers.  Check with us, we might even be able to supply you with some milk, and save you a trip to the grocery!  We will be your ONE – STOP SHOP.  You make a donation and we both win!

Dinner is served from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. and decaf coffee is always available along with delicious chocolate milk for our chocolate lovers! 

COST:   Freewill offering.

High chairs and booster chairs are available for the young ones!

Schedule of Events

5:00 to 5:30 PM – Five O’Clock Bistro – Heritage Hall. Come early and claim your dinner seat, relax and unwind from your busy day.  Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m.

5:00 to 7:30 PM – Casual Café – While the children are in their activities, parents can “hang out” in the Café. Relax in a comfy chair or chat with your church family members. No formal program, just a place to sit back, check your email, and be casual.

5:00 to 5:45 PM – UMC Bells

5:00 to 5:30 PM – Christ Chimers – Room 311 – 2nd through 6th grade. Currently without a teacher and will not meet until one is found.

5:30 to 6:00 PM – Children’s Choir opportunities (Cherub Choir and Alleluia Choir) for ages Pre-K through 6th grade – Rooms 311, 306, and 304.

5:30 to 6:30 PM – WNL Meal – Heritage Hall (1st floor) – A great meal for everyone! Freewill offering. Take home a leftover plate for a free will donation. High chairs and booster seats available for the little ones!

6:00 to 7:15 PM – Praise Band rehearsal in the Friendship Room

6:15 to 7:30 PM – Nursery (infants to 4 years old) – Room 305

6:15 to 7:30 PM – United Methodist Youth (7th through 12th grade) – Room 313.  Led by Jerry Slagter, Kim & Jeff Butler, and Darin Woodward. Note, Confirmation (7th grade or older) will begin in October with Pastor Cindy.

6:30 to 7:30 PM – Wesley Ringers – Adult Bells – Room 303 – directed by Jennifer Hawkins. Bell Messengers (adult bells) meets on Tuesdays, 12:30 to 1:30 PM, room 303 – directed by Jennifer Hawkins  

6:30 to 7:30 PM – Book Study – “Troubled Minds: Mental Illness and the Church’s Mission by Amy Simpson”.  Starting September 12 and running for 8 weeks.  Led by Dawn Grittman.

6:30 to 7:30 PM – Preschool Class – Room 300. Led by rotating teachers.
K through 1st Grade Class – Room 302. Led by Alice Burress
2nd & 3rd Grade Class – Room 306. Led by Lindsey Sheeder

WNL Generosity Adventure Continues in 2018-19!

Booster Pak of West Des Moines, Iowa is a non-profit group founded by Melanie Menken, and serves the children of West Des Moines who qualify for nutritional assistance through the West Des Moines Community School District and the Food Bank of Iowa.  The Booster Pak program has grown and expanded with the guidance and leadership of Melanie Menken. It is making a difference in the lives of many children in this community who are fighting hunger. Yes, there are hungry children in West Des Moines and just outside of our church doors.  

When WNL and Booster Pak talked of ways to help feed hungry children, we began to narrow those needs to our surrounding neighborhood.  With the help of Melanie Menken, we selected Hillside School for our December project of providing extra nourishment, while the children were out of school for two weeks.  Nutritional needs continue daily even when school is not in session.

Hunger for some children even grows.  During the summer months WDM Community Schools, The Food Bank of Iowa and Booster Pak provide nourishment for qualifying students.  There are three nutritional sites during the summer.  They are Legion Park at Fourth and Vine; Candle Ridge Apartments; and Clive Elementary School of Inquiry.  Wednesday Night Live selected Legion Park site to help this summer as a continuation of our Generosity Adventure.  During the summer for 10-11 weeks, between Noon and 1 p.m. on Fridays, students may pick up a Booster Pak for the weekend with food suitable for them.  They are checked in and verified by staff of the Nutritional Services Department of the WDM Community School District.  Melanie is estimating that Legion Park will serve 70 children or more weekly this summer. 

During the summer of 2017, 1,500 Booster Paks were distributed through the summer program.  Proceeds from WNL Dinners will be going to provide funding to serve these meals. Come to dinner on Wednesday Nights and pay what you may.  Please know that your free will offering will be going outside of the walls of our church and into the community to fight hunger. Hunger does not go away in the summer for these children.   To follow Jesus’ instructions from Matthew 14 verses 15-16, we are told as his disciples to feed His lambs and tend to His sheep.  We are excited about this mission project and hope that our meals will nourish your tummies and your souls.  May we all think of children who are hungry and need a stumbling block removed to be healthy physically and mentally.

If you would like to volunteer to help stuff Booster Paks, drive Booster Paks from the Learning Resource Center to Hillside, volunteer at the High School Pantry, or help in any way, please just let WNL know of your interest. Volunteers are always needed! We are most grateful to all who have supported the WNL Generosity Adventure since November 1, 2017. We have a big opportunity awaiting us for 10-11 weeks this summer!  JOIN us on this Adventure to fight hunger!
