Mission Trip to Cedar Rapids
Bringing Hope to Cedar Rapid is what has taken 21 adults from our church (including Pastor Emmanuel who just went for a day). As you may recall, the 2008 flood damaged over 5,000 homes in this area. The Iowa Annual Conference, as a response to this natural disaster, has designed a Storm Recovery Program. In the Cedar Rapids area, this work through Marion First UMC, which coordinates help from volunteers that come from different churches and organizations from all over the country.

The group from our church left on Monday, May 11 and will be back on Friday, May 15. Here is what they have been doing to help: rebuild, repair and clean up.

THANK you so much for your support in any form, and please, pray for all the people in Cedar Rapids.

Daily Trip Log
Monday, May 11

The 21 members of the mission team worked in three areas today.  One group worked on cabinets and wood trim in the home of a family of four.  Another group began hanging doors and painting trim & walls in the home of an older couple, the wife of whom is partially disabled.  Four members of the mission team conducted surveys in neighborhoods to ascertain which houses have been abandoned, which have renovation work planned or begun, and which have families residing in them.

The entire group gathered for dinner and devotions at the Kenwood Park UMC, which at present houses both the KP UMC congregation and the congregation of Salem UMC, a congregation whose building was so badly damaged by the flood that it may never again be usable.
