Mission Statement
This is the policy making body of the church. As such, they are responsible for setting and overseeing policies for the administration and programs of the church. They act on behalf of the church conference as directed at the annual meeting. They direct committees and task forces as well as holding them accountable. They function in keeping with the current United Methodist Book of Discipline.
General Responsibilites
Set policies for the Church.
Monitor all ministries of the congregation and hold them accountable to the Vision and Mission of our chruch.
Recommend the annual budget to the Church Conference
Direct the Administrative Committees as necessary.
Specific Responsibilites
Oversee all programs of the Church.
Responsibilites of the Chairperson
Participate in setting agenda for meetings with Senior Pastor and others.
Preside over meetings of the Council.
Appoint special or ad hoc committees as directed by Church Council or Church Conference.
Provide leadership to maintain a strong sense of community , fellowship, understanding, love and unity among all members of the West Des Moines United Methodist Church around our common Vision.
Maintain liaison communication with other groups and staff.
Responsibilites of the Vice Chairperson
In the absense of the chairperson, preside at Chruch Council.
Responsibilites of the Secretary
Record and prepare minutes for distribution.
Prepare and send correspondence as directed by the chairperson.
Serve as secretary for the Annual Church Conference.
Responsibilities of Committee Members
Attend meetings.
Keep abreast of events in Tower Talk, bulletins, minutes and financial reports of other church groups.
Be church leaders.
Assume responsibilities as requested
Responsibilities of Annual Conference Representatives
To represent West Des Moines United Methodist Church at the Iowa Annual Conference in Ames.
To attend district pre-conference training events - usually one Saturday morning in May.
Review legislation, vote on issues, and participate with nearly 2000 other lay leaders and clergy in all conference events.
Attend and report to the Church Council and other groups as requested or desired.
