Church Opportunity Group (COG) Activities

Thanksgiving Day - We serve Thanksgiving Dinner at the Community Center in West Des Moines.  This is done in conjunction with the WDM Human Services and the Rotary.

Christmas Shopping Spree - 75 children and chaperones and taken on a shopping spree for the children's families.  The children are clients of the WDM Human Services and go through a screening process.  COG provides the children with gift cards of $45.  After shopping, the children wrap all their gifts and the WDM Parks and Rec provides a pizza lunch.

Spring Luncheon - In March, we hold a luncheon for Senior Citizens.  Fliers are placed in many of the area nursing homes to invite people.  Members of COG provide all the food, Rotary does the serving.  A short program of entertainment follows the meal.

Personal Care Collection - In the Spring, we have a drvie to collect personal care items for WDM Human Services to hand out.  We collect items at area Dahl's stores and K-Mart.  This one day of collecting allows Human Services to have 3 - 4 months of items to dispense.
