Director of Preschool & PMO - Nancy Setchell

I was born in St. Louis, MO, but have lived in the Des Moines area for over 40 years. I am married to Brian and have three children and one son-in-law. They are Cristi Setchell, Nate Setchell, Alli and Matt Costello.

I have served as the Director of Parents’ Morning Out (PMO) since May 1990 and as Director of Preschool since August 1999. Our preschool partners with the West Des Moines Community Schools and offers the Statewide Voluntary Preschool Program for 4-5 year old children. My duties include overseeing the operation of both programs. The favorite part of my job is the people. I love the families—parents and children. We have a great staff with which to work.

I have a B.S. Degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in exceptional children from Iowa State University. I enjoy playing golf, spending time with family, and singing. My passion is to help others, especially people in need.

My favorite scripture is Romans 8:31, “ What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?”

Director of Administration - Linda Plummer

My position oversees many of the day-to-day operations of the church in the areas of administration, communications, finance, and church facilities.

I see God at work every day: In the people I meet, in random songs I hear on the radio, in nature. God isn’t somewhere “out there” . . .  he is here, with us, in the form of the Holy Spirit. He is speaking to me constantly . . . if I will only be silent long enough to hear him.

My husband, Pat, is a retired accountant. We I have three wonderful children who grew up in WDMUMC. Adam teaches math and computer technology at Adel High School. He is married to Kelly, who teaches preschool at the Science Center of Iowa. Emily lives in Urbandale and works for A-Tech – a company that does energy audits and energy rebates. Mike is in Omaha  working for Lockheed Martin as a computer engineer.

A favorite scripture is Colossians 3:12-15 – “Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.” (NLT)

I think this scripture provides a good model for how Christ wants us to live. It stresses love, grace, and gratitude.

Volunteer Administrative Assistant to the Pastors - Ginny Frazee

I do whatever I can to make things a little easier for the Pastors, serve on Leadership Development Committee and Project Andrew, and a few other things.

I am married to the kindest, most gentle and caring, best man in the world, Jim Frazee. Jim is the youngest born of four, and I am the second born of four. Both of us were born (in farm homes literally) and raised on the farm. Together we have 6 children, 16 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.

I am an avid reader. I have lots of Bibles, books about Bible characters, resources and maps for Bible Studies and knowledge, and dictionaries. Margaret Jensen’s “First We Have Coffee” and other biographical stories of her Norway family.  For fiction, I  enjoy Jan Caron (“The Mitford Series”); Nancy Anderson (“The Aunt Dimity” series); and Lillian Jackson Braun (“The Cat Who . . .” series).

There are so many favorite scriptures; it’s hard to choose just one. Two favorite stories are the story of Ruth and the story of David. In the story of Ruth, God chooses a loving, kind Moabite woman to be a part of Christ’s genealogy showing me that all are welcome in God’s family. And in the story of David, He shows me that nobody is perfect and I don’t have to be either—I need a close relationship with Christ and a heartfelt desire to ask for and receive God’s forgiveness and grace . . . and a willingness to go where God sends me.

Volunteer Membership Director - Sharon Sibert

As you might guess, this position is responsible for maintaining the membership records of the church. When people join our congregation, their names and information they provide are entered into the permanent membership records of the church. As family units change, those changes are also noted in the records. Births, deaths, marriages, membership transfers, etc. all become a part of their membership record. I also follow up with members when they move, change address or phone numbers, or place of worship. It is really helpful when members notify us of changes. This can be done via email or a phone call to the office. Thank you in advance for helping us to keep your information current.

Our family joined this church in 1983. Like many of you, we joined because of the people and their love for Christ.  Our children were confirmed in this church and we have tried to actively participate in the ministries of the church in a variety of ways. I think it is important for each of us to continue to grow and change not only so we remain healthy but our church also remains healthy. I am happy to be able to serve the church in this volunteer position.

 Building Superintendent - Robert Bayse

I started working for WDMUMC in April 2008 after being employed by Power Cleaner of Des Moines for several years. I enjoy the challenge of overseeing the maintenance of our large facility and grounds.

I am married to Laura,  and we have a daughter Abigayle.

I found this scripture on an index card when I started here. My guess is that it came from Gary Padgett (one of our former superintendents).  I never took it off the bulletin board I found it on. It is a scripture that puts my head in the right place.

Isaiah 46:3-4
“Listen to me, O house of Jacob, all you who remain of the house of Israel, you whom I have upheld since you were conceived, and have carried since your birth. Even to your old age and gray hairs I am He, I am He who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you."
