Our church is sponsoring our 5th annual packaging event for Meals from the Heartland on Saturday, April 29. The packaging event will be held at the Meals from the Heartland facility located at 357 Lincoln Street in West Des Moines.
In the prior four campaigns, we have raised funds for a total of 320,162 meals for people who do not have enough to eat. If you have participated in one of the prior years’ events, you know what an uplifting feeling it is to see so many members of our church working together for such a wonderful cause. This year, we will again be joined in this effort by members of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Des Moines.
Funding is required to pay for the materials that go into the meals that we will package. As in past years, each dollar contributed pays for five meals which underscores how this is such an incredibly efficient way to help a lot of people who are in need of assistance.
You can make a donation and/or sign-up for a packaging shift by using the green envelopes located in the pews and throughout the church. Envelopes can be placed in the Sunday collection plate or returned to the Church office. You can also sign-up for a packaging shift and/or make a donation on-line at www.tinyurl.com/HungerFight2017.
There are packaging shifts starting at 9:00, 9:30 and 11:00 am on April 29. The shifts starting at 9:00 and 9:30 will last 2 hours and the shift at 11:00 will be for one hour.
