 5 Star Unit Award Minimize

The UMW (United Methodist Women) of WDMUMC recently received a Five Star Unit award for their generous support of the five areas of Mission Giving for the year 2016. Those areas were Special Mission Recognition, Gifts to Mission, Pledge to Mission, Gift in Memory, and World Thank Offering.

UMW Co-Presidents Louise McDonald and Sue Smith attended the Iowa Central District  Annual meeting at First United Methodist Church in  Des Moines on September 23 to receive the award and attend workshops. The UMW Purpose is:  “The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose PURPOSE is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.”

All women of our church are considered UMW members.  If anyone is interested in becoming more actively involved in the mission work of WDMUMC’s UMW can contact Louise McDonald lmcd39@mchsi.com or Sue Smith nursesuesmith@gmail.com The next UMW gathering is the Christmas Tea on December 7 at 1 pm.  UMW’s annual Women’s Workshop will be held again in 2018 on April 7.

 United Methodist Women

To the woman who finds meaning in her church and is drawn to its fellowship; whose life is packed full of activity and obligations; who struggles with loneliness or a sense of failure; who juggles jobs and family, and tries to be faithful to both; who wants to combine classroom study with significant fellowship and outreach opportunities; who seems overburdened with the traditional woman's role of care giver; who feels she has gifts which are wasted or undeveloped; who wants to be accepted for who she is; or who needs a supportive community to affirm her own sense of purpose and commitment to God...

We invite you to membership in United Methodist Women.

Quilting Prayer

quilt.jpg
Life isn't given to us all of a piece;
It's more like a patchwork quilt.
Each hour and minute a patch to fit in
To the pattern that's being built.

With some patches gay--
And some patches dark.
And some that seem ever so dull.
But if we were given to set some apart,
We'd hardly know which to cull.

For it takes the dark patches
to set off the light.
And, somehow, the pattern just wouldn't be right
If we took any part away.

No, life isn't given to us all of a piece
But in patches of hours
to His pattern of life
To whatever design He might choose.
